Avro Burga
The Burga Monoplane was a two-seat aircraft by the English manufacturer Avro.
General
In 1912, the company Avro received from a Peruvian lieutenant Burga commissioned to build an airplane. This machine should be based on a design Burgas. Burga had chosen Avro, since this company was very progressive in the field of aircraft control at this time.
Since Avro was just busy with the construction of the prototype of the type E, the forerunner of the Avro 500, mono Planes parts were the construction of the Burga used, which were also fitted with the Type E: wing, tail area ( height and rudder) and the suspension. Especially for Burgas aircraft but the hull was developed, it was much narrower than the Type E Hull. The built-in engine was a Gnome with a power of about 37.3 kW ( 50.7 hp).
Unusual was the site of control on this machine; addition to the usual rudder on the tail fin were two oars, one each above and below the fuselage, immediately prior to the cockpit, the ausschlugen in opposite direction.
The construction of the aircraft had low priority at Avro, it worked only intermittently on the machine, if allowed it to work on the other machines. Thus, the structure was finished in June 1912 was carried out in July on the engine and only on October 15, 1912 got off the plane the workshop of Avro.
After the maiden flight in Shoreham on November 20, 1912, listed the pilot test that the machine was fast and good climbing characteristics possessed. The aircraft completed a few more test flights. When she was killed in a such flights on 12 December, she was brought in for repair back to the Avro workshop. Then we heard of this plane any more.
Construction
The Burga - Monoplane was a fabric used to cover wood construction. The suspension consisted of a two -wheel main landing gear with a centered mounted ski and a tail skid.
