The Quarter Rosé

Avry is a municipality in the District de la Sarine ( German: Sarine district) of the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The community Avry was on 1 January 2001 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Avry -sur -Matran ( Freiburg Patois Avri chu Matran? / I, German Avry whether Matran ) and Corjolens.

Geography

Avry is at 679 m above sea level. M., 7 km west-southwest of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a ridge between the valleys of the Glane in the south and the Sonnaz in the north, Molassehügelland of Fribourg Mittelland. The community is now one of the agglomeration of Freiburg.

The area of ​​5.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen west of Freiburg. The central part of the municipality is occupied by the ridge of Avry, on 713 m above sea level. M. the highest point of the municipality is achieved, and is bordered to the northeast by the forest of Verdilloud. To the south, the area extends over the formerly marshy valley of rosé on the wooded hilltop La Râpe ( 692 m above sea level. M. ). Between Rosé and Avry -Bourg is an extensive residential district. Neighboring municipalities of Avry are Chésopelloz, Matran, Neyruz, La Brillaz, Prez -vers- Noreaz, Noreaz and Chésopelloz.

Population

With 1844 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Avry is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 86.0 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 8.2 % and 1.2 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Avry amounted in 1850 to 380 residents in 1900 to 490 inhabitants. After peaking in 1940 with 521 inhabitants, the population increased to 1960 by around 20 % to 421 inhabitants from. Since then, rapid population growth was again associated with a tripling of the population recorded in 30 years.

Economy

Avry was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. During the Second World War, was stabbed in Avry peat. Today, agriculture, dairy farming and livestock have only a minor role in the economic structure of the population.

Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In the vicinity of Freiburg and located on the main routes to Avry developed since the 1970s into an industrial and business center with extensive shopping facilities. 1965, Sofraver AG in Avry -sur -Matran let down that manufactures insulating glass. Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed. It lies on the main road from Freiburg to Payerne. The nearest links to the motorway A12 ( Bern -Vevey ) is located around 2 km from the town center. On September 4, 1862, the railway line from Lausanne to Freiburg was taken with a station in Rosé in operation. For the dispersion in public transport provided by three bus lines of the Transports publics Fribourgeois from Freiburg to Lentigny, Nierlets -les -Bois and rosé and a postal bus from Avry to Romont.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1162 under the name De Avriei; derived from the Gallo-Roman family names Aprius. Since the 13th century the noble family Affry is busy, which was responsible for the village rule. By buying Avry came in 1442 under the rule of Freiburg and the Old Landscape ( Neustadtpanner ) has been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the Sarine district.

As part of since 2000 sponsored by the Canton of Fribourg municipal mergers, the inhabitants of Avry -sur -Matran and Corjolens for a merger of their communities determined. The resulting effective on January 1, 2001, new municipality was named Avry.

Attractions

In Avry itself which was built around 1704 Château de Buman located. Another country house from the 18th century stands in Courtaney. The Trinity chapel dates from 1897. Avry belongs to the parish Matran.
