Ayata Municipality

The municipality Ayata is a district in the department of La Paz in the Andean state of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Ayata is one of three Municipalities of the province Muñecas and lies in the northern part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of Chuma, on the southeast by the province Larecaja, on the east by the municipality of Aucapata, and to the north by the province of Bautista Saavedra.

The municipality has 75 localities ( Localidades ). Administrative center of the municipality is Ayata with 147 inhabitants in the southern part of the municipality, the largest town is Tarisquia with 402 inhabitants. (2001)

Geography

The municipality Ayata is on an average height of 4000 m east of Lake Titicaca and is part of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central. The climate of the region is a typical diurnal climate where the temperatures during the day have more differences than in the course of the year.

The mean annual temperature of the region is 9.4 ° C, the monthly values ​​vary between 7 ° C in June / July and nearly 11 ° C in November / December. The annual rainfall in the long-term average is 800 mm, and during the winter months of June and July are arid with less than 10 mm month precipitation reaching the summer months from December to March values ​​from 100 to 140 mm.

97.8 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 80.9 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).
