Ayoub Tabet

Ayoub Tabet, also Ayub Thabit (* 1884 in Beirut, † 1951) was a Lebanese politician.

Life

Ayoub Thabet was Maronite origin, but converted to the Protestant faith. From 1905, he studied medicine in the United States and held 1913/14, in Paris. During the First World War once again in the United States, he returned to the end of the war in Lebanon. In 1928 he was Lebanese Interior Minister. He was on 30 January 1936 to January 5, 1937 Prime Minister of Lebanon. In 1943 he was employed under the League of Nations mandate of the military government of Free France under Georges Catroux from 22 March to 21 July 1943 as Prime Minister and from 18 March to 22 July 1943 as President of Lebanon. Ayoub Thabet came during his brief tenure in the power struggle between the Muslim and Christian parties and was deposed by Catroux 's successor, Jean Helleu. He was succeeded by the moderate Christian politicians Petro Trad.
