Azerbaijan national football team

The Azerbaijan national football team is the selection of the best football players from Azerbaijan.

To date, the team failed to qualify for either a World Cup or a European Football Championship. Although the country is geographically in Asia, the federation is a member of UEFA, which is why the national team participates in the European competitions.

History

Until 1990 Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union, which is why Azerbaijani players could only play in the national football team of the USSR.

The Azerbaijani Football Federation was founded in 1992 and entered 1994, the UEFA and FIFA in. Azerbaijan took part in the European Championships from 1960 to 1992 as part of the USSR and the CIS. In the Soviet national team but Azerbaijani players played no major role.
