History

Prior to founding

Already on September 17, 1922, there was an unofficial founding of the association. Until this year, was in the city of Denizli is hardly a sport, except rings, disseminated, so that the city with the ( unofficial ) establishing a football club from a sporting perspective got a great turn. The founders, who at the same time players were also Kenan Bey, Kadri Özbaş, Şemsi Bey, Mustafa Naili Bey Hamdi Bey and founded the association Denizli İdman Yurdu.

The first unofficial football game the city was played a week after the founding. Kadir Abanoğlu, Kadri Özbaş, Acemoğlu Riza Bey, Fehmi Bey, Vasfi Bozkaya and Öğretmen Nevzat Bey were the first football player. Since there were no football pitches, one trained from 1 October 1922 on neutral ground. As a demarcation of the gates, two jackets were placed on the ground, so as to allow a football game.

Eight years later, in 1930, the club was expanded, whereby together trained with the newly formed club also unofficially Menderes Gençlik. 1936 merged the two clubs Denizli İdman Yurdu and Menderes Gençlik. As a new name Denizlispor was announced. Until 1966, it participated in any official leagues, because you still had no license for the operation of gambling.

The 20th century

Professionalization

The early 1960s, decided to start a project, which could participate in the professional world of football all provinces of Turkey, the Turkish Football Federation. As part of the province of Denizli decided to meet the requirements of the Turkish Football Federation and to provide a steadfast team for professional football.

On May 26, 1966, the team was officially established. At a plenary meeting of the clubs Denizlispor, Çelik Yeşilspor and Pamukkale Gençlik one came to the decision to make an application to the Turkish Football Federation. Moreover, it was agreed to, the name Denizlispor be reported to the Association. This agreed with the request, so Denizlispor was included in the second Turkish League on 14 July 1966. Through the acquired professional status was also a new structure and a rebuilding of the club. The team was strongly supported by the governor of the province of Denizli, Nezih Oku, and the former president of the Turkish Football Federation, Orhan Şeref Apak.

As a club colors of black and green were presented. The first president was Dr. Samim Gok; the other club members were Fuat Özen, Birol Ünder, İlhami Süner, Şükrü Sarıoğlu, Atilla Sayıner and Yakup Ünel.

After the Board was established, made it to the search for a head coach for the team. Three of the seven-member Board Mitligeder went to Izmir to submit Altan Santepe a contract offer. He put the three members before 30 conditions that had to be met over time. When the members agreed to the demands of Santepe, the first coach was found.

After 1966

The first official football game was on September 11, 1966 outwardly discharged against Beyoğluspor, which they lost with 1:3. The first goal for Denizlispor, in an official game, the player Ati Göksü scored in the 20th minute game. The first win was a week later against Altındağspor than one could win the game 1-0.

In the first season in the club's history they finished at the end of the 7th Place. The following three seasons, finished the season as one second, or third parties.

First-time promotion to the 1st Lig

After 17 years in the second division it was at the end of the 1982/83 season champion and thus also rose for the first time in the premier league. The first season was finished on a beachtlichten 7th Place. A season later he was 16th in the league, which would normally mean relegation to the second division. However, the Turkish Football Federation decided to increase the Premier League in the following season on 19 football teams, so Denizlispor could remain top notch.

Between 1st and 2nd league

At the end of the season 1987/88 is increased after five years in the highest Turkish league again in the second division from. After six seasons in the second division took place as runner up in the 1993/94 season again the promotion to the top league. However, it was only two seasons keep the class, so you once again relegated to the second division after three poor seasons. As short as the stay in the first division was, the faster managed to return to the House of Lords. In the 1997/98 season, you missed the rise only slightly, as you only failed in the play-offs. A season later he rose as runner-up, level on points with the champions Vanspor, in the first division, so Denizlispor after two years of absence, was in competition at the 1st Lig.

The 21st century

International performance

After the renewed rise in the first Lig the club reach considerable success, including the semi-finals at the Turkish Cup in 2001/ 02, 2004 /05 and 2005/ 06 season. In the 2000 /01 season one was reported by the Turkish Association for the UEFA Intertoto Cup ( short Intertoto Cup ). The background of why one has been reported as 11 -placed, was that actually qualified teams could the UI Cup regarded as "unnecessary" and as "additional burden".

Denizlispor got drawn against in the first round of Bosnia and Herzegovina club NK Čelik Zenica. At the international debut, they lost the first leg 0-1 away, although it took off with a young team a good game. The return match was still lost with 3:5, so that one was already eliminated after the first round despite a 1-0 lead.

The highlight of the club's history is the season 2001/ 02 and 2002/03 season. With the coach Riza Çalımbay they finished first in the Süper Lig 5th place in the table, the legitimate from participating in the UEFA Cup.

In the first round you could see the French side FC Lorient beat, as it stood after return game 3-3. Due to the away goals rule Denizlispor made the jump to the second round. As an opponent in the second round of the Czech giants Sparta Prague was randomly assigned. The first leg in Prague was lost despite the great struggle with 0:1. Denizlispor were attributed no realistic chances more, including the fact because Sparta Prague this season for the fifth consecutive time champion in the Czech Republic was. The return match in Denizli could 2-0 to decide for themselves, so that the sensation from the perspective of the Turks was perfect through two goals from Mustafa Özkan.

In the third round they met again on a French representative, because with Olympique Lyon had been a champion again as an opponent who was eligible to play as a third party from the group stage of the Champions League for the UEFA Cup. Denizlispor had home advantage in the first game and had to go through the triple mode ( Championship, League Cup and UEFA Cup ) and replace some injured yellow- suspended players. In Denizli we fought for a 0-0 draw and figured so, despite the apparently superior team Lyons ( France international Gregory Coupet and as Sidney Govou ), opportunities for the knockout stages of. Moreover, the market value of the squad Olympique Lyon was more than 20 times of the squad 's Denizlispor. The second leg in Lyon began promisingly, as Denizlispors Torgarant Mustafa Özkan met in the 6th minute game to make it 1-0 for the Turkish outsider. The defensive Servet Çetin with, Roman Kratochvil, Bülent Ertuğrul and forward all Goalkeeper Dirk Heinen took off an outstanding game and prevented a lot of scoring chances. After 90 minutes it was - from a Turkish perspective - the miracle happened and we won the game 1-0 away and moved into the second round. When the team flew back to Denizli, she was celebrated for hours on receipt of the fans. Together with Beşiktaş Istanbul, also moved into the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup, both teams were celebrated in Turkey as a national hero.

In the second round they lost significantly in the first leg FC Porto, which ran aground with stars such as Deco, Ricardo Costa, Ricardo Carvalho and José Mourinho as coach. At half time you could still hold a 0-0, but was broken in the second half and had to admit the better team in all respects beaten with 1:6. In the return match scored a remarkable 2-2 draw against eventual UEFA Cup winners, so that one has honorably adopted by the European stage.

From this point Denizlispor made himself a name nationally and was henceforth regarded as the " Giant Killer " of the four big clubs of Turkey ( Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas Istanbul and Trabzonspor ).

Relegation 2005/ 06

In the season 2005/ 06 Denizlispor played the most important game in the season on the final day. With a 1-1 (0-0 ) against Fenerbahce ( with the coach Christoph Daum ) the club reached not only the league, but also prevented the winning the championship of his opponent. An exceptional performance during the 107 minutes continuous play ( injury time due to several toilet paper rolls that were thrown on the pitch ) offered goalkeeper Hamidou Souleymanou who fended seemingly untenable shots at his goal. After Mustafa Keceli brought in the 89th minute Denizlispor in, Tuncay Şanlı equalized in the 95th minute. For this goal there goalkeeper Hamidou injured and lost consciousness for 2 minutes.

Since this game Denizlispor is seen as a " nemesis " of Fenerbahce.

Descent from the 1st Lig and present

After 11 years of the club in 2009/10 rose from 2 in the league at the end of the season. Since then, the rise is almost twice missed.

On September 21, 2013, agreement was reached with the hospital Tekden on a three-year sponsorship. Since then, the club runs on under the name Tekden Denizlispor.
