Bakhyt Sarsekbayev

Baqyt Särsekbajew ( Kazakh Бақыт Сәрсекбай; born November 29, 1981 in Pavlodar ) is a boxer from Kazakhstan. He was Olympic champion at the 2008 Games in Beijing in the welterweight division.

Career

Baqyt Särsekbajew, a 1.73 m high and about 70kg athlete, joined in the international boxing ring for the first time in 2002 at the Asian Games in Busan in appearance. He started at that time for Uzbekistan. In Busan he stood in the light welterweight and won there over Udone Khanxay from Laos by points ( 13:11), then hit Musaffer Jussupbekow from Kyrgyzstan by demolition in the 3rd round and was defeated in the semifinals against Nurschan Karimschanow from Kazakhstan on points ( 19:23 ), which he finished in 3rd place.

Also in the 2003 World Cup in Bangkok, he started yet for Uzbekistan. In Bangkok he showed in the light welterweight like his first fight against Diógenes Luna from Cuba a courageous battle and was defeated only extremely short ( 23:24 ) on points. He thus left before the second round and came on the 17th Place.

Mid-2004 Baqyt Särsekbajew to Kazakhstan and was with a win over Daulen Jelensinow equal Kazakh welterweight champion. However, for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens, he could not qualify.

In 2005, he was with a victory over Vladimir Ulyanov again Kazakh welterweight champion and also won at the Asian Championship in Ho Chi Minh City with a win over Aliasker Baschirow from Turkmenistan to champion welterweight title.

2006 Baqyt Särsekbajew again Kazakh champion in the welterweight division. Then he was at first Presidents Cup in Astana at the start and lost there in the final against his compatriot Vladimir Ulyanov by points ( 30:39 ). But he was still employed at the Asian Games 2006 in Doha welterweight and was there in outstanding shape. He suggested Eshak Waez from Syria ( 24:3 ), Aliasker Baschirow from Turkmenistan ( 49:26 ) and Hanati Silamu from China ( 37:30 ) on points and defeated in the final battle Anghkan Chomphuphuang from Thailand by termination in the 2nd round.

Also in 2007 Baqyt Särsekbajew was very active. He started first with the King's Cup in Bangkok, where they lost in the quarter- final against Olympic champion Manus Boonjumnong from Thailand to points, which he finished 5th. When Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul victories he achieved over Dawid Tabatadse from Ukraine, World Champion Erislandi Lara from Cuba & Natig Alischow from Azerbaijan. However, in the semi-finals of this tournament he lost to Abduldadir Kuroğlu from Turkey, reaching the 3rd place. At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago he won the welterweight Xavier Noël from France ( 18:7 ), Velibor Vidić from Bosnia- Herzegovina ( 26:4 ) and Pedro Lima from Brazil ( 23:11 ) on points. In the quarterfinals, but he was defeated by Hanati Silamu ( 14:20 ) and thus came to 5th place. This place gave him but as a qualifier for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Before these games Baqyt Särsekbajew checked his form initially at the King's Cup in Bangkok. He suggested there the Japanese Hiroyuki Hirakawa by demolition in the 3rd round and the Mongols Tuvshinbat Byamba on points, but lost the final against Hanati Silamu again by points ( 17:19 ). He then also took on Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul and won this tournament in the welterweight division with wins over Kiliç Yavuz, Turkey, Dmitri Ivanov, Russia and Adem Kilicci Turkey.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing, he then crowned his career so far, because he was there with five unchallenged wins Olympic gold medalist. He won it on Adam Trupish from Canada to points (20:1), then hit Vitaly Grusac from Moldova by termination in the 2nd round and came to another point victories over Dilshod Makhmudov, Uzbekistan ( 12:7 ), Jung Joo Kim, South Korea ( 10:6 ) and Carlos Banteur ( Banteaux ) from Cuba ( 18:9 ).

In the season 2010/11 Särsekbajew launched for the Astana Arlans in the World Series of Boxing and won four of five fights. He defeated the White Russians Mahamed Nurudsinau.
