Pedro Lima (boxer)

Pedro Alvaro Santos de Lima ( born June 29, 1983 in Riachão do Jacuípe, State of Bahia) is a Brazilian boxer.

Career

It was 2003 Brazilian champion in the light welterweight division, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Brazilian welterweight champion, and 2011 and 2013 Brazilian champion at middleweight. He also defeated twice Esquiva Falcão.

In 2005, he retired at the 6th Pan-American Championships in Teresópolis, only in the semifinals of the welterweight against Erislandy Lara and thus won bronze. At the World Championships the same year in Mianyang, however, he resigned from in the second round. In 2006 he achieved a 5th place in the South American Games in Buenos Aires.

He celebrated the biggest continental success in 2007 by winning the gold medal in the welterweight division at the 15th Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. He had it enforced against Jaime Cortez from Ecuador, Ricardo Smith from Jamaica and Demetrius Andrade from the U.S.. At the World Championships the same year in Chicago, he was beaten in the first round against Baqyt Särsekbajew.

For the 2008 Summer Olympics, he could not qualify, because he had to retire in the U.S. elimination fights in Port of Spain and Guatemala City on the places 3 and 5. After victories against Lucien Hewelette, Tureano Johnson, Cristian Peguero and Gustavo Bernardez, he was inferior to John Jackson and in a rematch against Tureano Johnson. In 2009 he took part in the World Championships in Milan, where he was eliminated in the second qualifying round against Balázs Bácskai.

In 2010 he won the gold medal at the 53rd World Military Championships in Jacksonville, USA at middleweight. He defeated while on the way to the title Joan Nilusmas from France, Nurbota Seitbek from Kazakhstan and Peter Müllberg from the Netherlands. The Military World Games 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, he won the 5th place.
