Balan (Ain)

Balan is a commune with 2498 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the community association Canton de Montluel.

Geography

The municipality is located five kilometers south-east of Montluel. In the south of the river Rhône forms a natural border with the municipality of Villette- d'Anthon. To the west the town of Niévroz, on the northwest by Dagneux, on the north by Bressolles and Béligneux and east to Saint- Maurice -de- Gourdans.

History

In Roman times it was known as Balanum. Many finds attest to the Gallo-Roman past. From the 12th to the 18th century, the place of the Lords of Montluel was dependent. Since 1654 it got its present name.
