Journans

Journans is a commune of 332 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the community association Bresse Dombes Sud Revremont.

Geography

Journans between Rignat, a hamlet of Bohas - Meyriat - Rignat, east and Les Machardes, a hamlet of Tossiat, in the west, 10 kilometers southeast of Bourg -en- Bresse and 57 kilometers northeast of Lyon in Bresse. South of the town rises in the Montagnes de Journans the Reyssouze, which flows into the Saône to 75 kilometers.

History

The Tower of Journans (Tour de Journans ) was a fief which belonged to the village Journans. It was awarded in 1460 by Louis I, duc de Savoie, to Pierre de Laye, the Seigneur of Messimy and Becerel was why the tower in Tour de Becerel has been renamed. From the 17th century to the French Revolution was a fief of the Charbonnier family.

In the Middle Ages Journans belonged to Seigneurie of Tossiat. 1650 Journans was mentioned as Jornens documentary, 1670 Journens. In the Ancien Régime, the village belonged to the Bailiwick of Bourg -en- Bresse. The parish church was dedicated to St. Valerius († 178 ), and was first mentioned in 1613.

1793 Journans received the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution.
