Barbara Wirth

Barbara Wirth ( born September 16, 1989 in Munich) is a German alpine skier. You heard since the summer of 2009 on the B-team of the German Ski Association and specializes in the slalom and giant slalom.

Biography

Wirth was born as the daughter of a former Skilangläufers. The sporty footsteps of her father, she did not want to follow in the beginning. Only her grandfather woke the passion for alpine racing. Supported by her father, who had recognized the movement talent of his daughter, she contested from the winter 2004/ 05 first FIS races and won for the first time in March 2006. Earlier in her career she was also in Super G and downhill at the start, focused but soon the technical slalom and giant slalom.

From December 2006, she regularly participated in the race for the European Cup in part, to the first point, it took until January 2008. During the 2008 /09 season Wirth scored twice a third place in a European Cup slalom, both in the discipline of competition as well as overall it was seventh. In addition, the German Junior Champion title came in the giant slalom. Immediately after their podium finishes in the European Cup it was recorded in January 2009 in the World Cup squad of the German Ski Association. My first race of them on January 25, 2009 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, but remained until the end of the season to no avail. Since 1 August 2009, she belongs in the rank of a duty sergeant to the ski team of the Federal Customs Administration.

In the slalom in Levi Finland on 14 November 2009 Wirth drove in the first run with the high start number 54 for the first time in her career in a World Cup race in the final and picked at the end with rank 28, the first World Cup points. After several fruitless race in the rest of the winter she could already several times points in the season 2010/11. Best result of the season was the 23rd in the slalom in Flachau on January 11, 2011. They scored in the European Cup in 2009/10 season with three podium finishes in fourth place in the slalom standings. The next winter she was with nine top-10 results in the Sixth European Cup overall standings.

To kick off the 2011/12 season Wirth reached 18th place in the giant slalom in Soelden her best World Cup result so far. Subsequently, however, she could almost two years no longer hold at this level, since it has experienced numerous failures. On January 5, 2014, it posted its best ever World Cup result with 9th place in the slalom in Bormio. So she managed to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where she finished 14th in the slalom and 25th in giant slalom.
