Barbra Fontana

Barbra Fontana Harris ( born September 8, 1965 in Manhattan Beach ) is a former American beach volleyball player.

Career

Fontana graduated from Stanford University and played their first beach volleyball tournaments in 1984 during her time as a student. In 1993 she formed a duo with Lori Forsythe and the following year they had their first performances at FIVB tournaments, where she was third in the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg and won the Open Tournament in Osaka. As of 1996, she played with Linda Hanley, reaching more fourth places. In the Olympic tournament in Atlanta Fontana / Hanley defeated in the battle for the bronze Australians Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst. In 1997, they remained in the top ten international tournaments and came in the national tour four times in the final. However, they failed at the World Championships in Los Angeles in front of a home crowd in the quarterfinals to the Brazilians Adriana Behar and Bede Shelda. In 1998 there were in the open series three fourth places and a tournament victory in Espinho.

With her new partner Lisa Arce Fontana came at the 1999 World Cup in Marseille only on the 17th place, although the two U.S. women and 2000 continued to achieve top rankings in other tournaments. 2001 Fontana joined with Elaine Youngs and won the Open tournament in Cagliari and the Grand Slam in Marseille. At the World Championships in Klagenfurt she missed the defeat against the Czechs Celbová / Novakova in fourth again just a medal. They also closed the AVP Tour from as highest placed player. In 2002, she was playing with Dianne DeNecochea and came three times in the playoffs from AVP tournaments, while fifth was twice at FIVB tournaments. Then she laid because of her pregnancy a break.

In 2003, she returned to the side of Jennifer Kessy, with which she played four AVP semi-finals the following year. In 2005 she paused due to the birth of her second son again. After she had played in 2006 with various partners, they formed in 2007 again a duo with her former team-mate DeNecochea that on the AVP tour was still active until 2008.
