Behemoth (Band)

Behemoth ( named after the monster of the Judeo / Christian mythology ) is a Polish metal band, which was initially the black metal to you, however gradual death metal turned in the course of its history, and is now one of the most famous representatives of this sub-genre.

History

The band was founded in 1991 in Gdansk by the singer Adam Michał " Nergal " Darski, under the name Baphomet. The music of the band initially leaned against the Norwegian bands, as well as Venom, Bathory, Samael and the early Celtic Frost / Hellhammer; Nergal is called as the then main influences bands like Tiamat, Beherit, Samael, Blasphemy and Morbid Angel. He changed the name later in Behemoth; next he runs other projects like Hefeystos, December 's Fire, Damnation and Voodoo Gods. At the beginning, the situation for the band was difficult both financially and technically, as Nergal stated: " Of course we had no money, especially when it came to equipment, back then we had really just scrap [ ... ]! [ ... ] It was not easy, we could not properly deal with our instruments, we also had hardly any. "

Inspired by the Norwegian " Inner Circle " was born in Poland in The Temple of the Full Moon (TTF ) were among its founders beside Nergal also Blasphemous of Veles and Venom of Xantotol. To Order also included the bands Infernum, Mysteries, Veles, Full Moon and Graveland, whose founder Rob Darken described him as idealistic copy of the Norwegian circle. Nergal was later distanced himself from this organization. This was followed by an anti - Behemoth campaign of TTF and threats against Nergal and Behemoth.

In 1994, the band released through the support of the Italian label Entropy Productions their EP And the Forests Dreams Eternally. On this behemoth is related to geography and Slavic mythology, which was also associated with Satanism.

In 1995, the label Pagan Records Behemoth first album Sventevith published ( Storming Near the Baltic ); also this was recorded with poor equipment, which only changed to 1996 or 1997. The band, particularly band founder Nergal, then this album in retrospect as the first turning point in the band's history to date four years, since it came internationally on all around positive response. So also, the German label Solistitium Records became aware of them. Due to lack of financial support ended Behemoth cooperation.

In 1996 Behemoth first appeared, both in Poland and on the Pagan Triumph tour together with their countrymen of Christ Agony, the Norwegian band Helheim and the Thuringian band Menhir on.

At this time, replaced parts of the occupation and Behemoth pledged by the Italian label Avantgarde Music, which published the technical / experimental death metal album Satanica. This tendency was bringing with him also in the subsequent publications, occasional label and lineup changes, retained. With the album Thelema.6 Behemoth related to Aleister Crowley Thelema, with the title of successor Zos Kia Cultus on Austin Osman Spare 's Zos Kia Cultus.

Also published in 2004, the album Demigod brought new experimental influences with them. By Karl Sanders' involvement emerged stylistic parallels to the American death metal band Nile. Moreover, even those of the Egyptian culture and history are treated in Demigod next philosophical themes as well as in Nile.

The album Evangelion was released half a year later, on August 7, 2009. It reached in November 2009 with 15,000 units sold gold status in Poland.

In August 2010 it was announced that Nergal is seriously ill with leukemia and is dependent on a stem cell transplant. On January 17, 2011 Nergal could leave the hospital Uniwersyteckie Polish Centrum Kliniczne after he had there received stem cells from an anonymous donor three weeks before.

On February 3, 2014, the tenth studio album The Satanist appeared. For the summer 2014 U.S. tour was announced.
