Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz

Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz Carlos Guillermo Honorato Cardinal OFM ( born November 12, 1912 in Cotacachi, Imbabura Province, Ecuador, † April 6, 2000 in Quito ) was bishop of Ambato and later Archbishop of Guayaquil.

Life

Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz resigned after his school years in the Franciscan order and studied in Rome Catholic theology and philosophy. On July 4, 1937, he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further study, he received his doctorate in 1941 for a Doctor of Philosophy. He then worked as a lecturer in various houses of his order and took care of the members of the Third Order of Saint Francis in Ecuador. In addition, he was involved in the spiritual welfare and as editor of a religious magazine.

1949 Pope Pius XII appointed him. bishop of Ambato. Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz in 1969 and Archbishop of Guayaquil, where he performed the duties of pastors until 1989. Pope John Paul II commissioned him in 1990 to 1995 with the leadership of the Apostolic Administration of the vacant bishopric Ibarra. On November 26, 1994, he was accepted as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Nereo ed Achilleo in the College of Cardinals. Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz died on 6 April 2000 and was buried on the grounds of the Franciscan convent of Quito.
