Berzhahn

Berzhahn is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Westerburg.

Geography

Berzhahn located on the northern slope of the wide forest area four kilometers southeast of Westerburg. To Berzhahn and the living space belongs granulator.

History

The first mention Berzhahns goes back to the year 1338.

Berzhahn belonged to the early 19th century to the reign Westerburg and came in 1806 in the wake of the formation of the Confederation of the Rhine under Napoleon the Grand Duchy of Berg. 1813 came Berzhahn temporarily to the House of Orange -Nassau and as a result the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to the Duchy of Nassau. Under the management of the Nassau community Berzhahn belonged to the caste domination Leiningen- Westerburg in the Official Rennerod. In 1858 lived in Berzhahn 126 families and 419 inhabitants. 1866 was the Duchy of Nassau, and thus Berzhahn the Kingdom of Prussia.

On October 5, 1972, a Bundeswehr helicopters from Bell UH -1D was Berzhahn rammed by a Starfighter and crashed. The fighter jet was able to fly up to the Büchel air base and land there. In this accident, three people died.
