Rotenhain

Rotenhain is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Westerburg.

History

The former name of the village Rotenhain was amended on July 3, 1937 due to the " ugly " sounding name of Rotzenhahn in Rotenhain.

Today's church was re-formed on 7 June 1969 the municipalities Rotenhain and Todtenberg.

Parish council

The local council in Rotenhain consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

In Rotenhain is the Old Castle to Rotzenhahn, which probably dates from the 13th century. The " castle " is actually a larger apartment building - probably a customs station on the ancient trade route. The footprint of the old castle is 225 m². The association Historica Rotenhain has the old castle reconstructed. About 6000 working hours and a half million Euros have been invested to build the castle again. Their foundation was found in Wegbauarbeiten in the district of Old Castle in 1997.

The parish church of St. Martin dates back to 1220. The present main building was built in 1743. Worth seeing is a wall mosaic of over 50,000 individual stones.

Traffic

Southwest of the community runs the federal highway 255 which leads from Montabaur to Herborn. The nearest motorway junction is Montabaur on the A 3 Rotenhain stands on the Upper Westerwald train to Limburg and Au (Sieg). From there, the cities of Cologne, Koblenz, Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden are directly accessible. The nearest InterCityExpress stop is the railway station at Montabaur the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main.
