History

The place was first mentioned in a document in 879 when it was donated to the St. Severusstift in Gemünden of Count Gebhard in Lahngau.

Hergenroth belonged to the rule Westerburg and came in 1806 in the wake of the formation of the Confederation of the Rhine under Napoleon the Grand Duchy of Berg. 1813 came Hergenroth temporarily to the House of Orange -Nassau and as a result the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to the Duchy of Nassau.
