Blair Betts

Blair Betts ( born February 16, 1980 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays in the position of center for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League since 2009.

Career

Betts played as a teenager in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars. This he spent four seasons faithfully between 1996 and 2000 and reached the playoffs every year.

After the bed had already been selected by the Calgary Flames in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in the second round to 33rd place, brought him this early in the season 2000/ 01 for the first time in their farm team in the American Hockey League. The Saint John Flames, the Center led a good and spent the greater part of the 2001/02 season there. In 67 games in the regular season Betts recorded 49 scorer points, which meant that he was appointed for the first time in the NHL squad of the Calgary Flames in February 2002. Overall, he came to six inserts, where he could score a goal. In the following two seasons, he came only to isolated operations, as it was repeatedly set back by injuries.

For the Trade Deadline in March 2004, he was transferred along with Jamie McLennan and Greg Moore to the New York Rangers. In return, Chris Simon moved to Calgary. During the lockout the NHL season 2004/ 05 Betts played for the AHL farm team of the Rangers, the Hartford Wolf Pack. From the following season 2005/ 06 he was part of the permanent staff of the Rangers and distinguished himself especially as an outstanding outnumbered players.

Internationally

Betts represented his country at the U20 World Youth Championship in 1999. During the tournament, he completed five games and remained no points. In the final match he defeated with Canada against Russia and won the silver medal.
