BM Ciudad Real

BM Ciudad Real is a Spanish handball club from Ciudad Real. In the 2000s, the men's team won the Spanish league ASOBAL and at European level a variety of titles. The home ground was the Quijote Arena. In 2011, the professional team moved to Madrid, where it plays since then under the name BM Atlético de Madrid.

History

The club was founded in 1981 under the name ADC Caserío Vigón. Since 1992, the club got its present name. Club president is the billionaire Domingo Díaz de Mera.

In the seasons 2007/ 08 and 2008/ 09 they won both the Champions League and the national championship. In the 2009/10 season, the Spanish Championship was won for the fifth time. In the semifinals of the Final Four tournament, the Champions League but they lost to the eventual winner THW Kiel 27:29. A year later, they moved again to the final, which was lost to the constant rivals FC Barcelona by 23:28. Coach of the team since 2005 Talant Dujshebaev, who was also active as a player for the club.

Following financial problems in the season 2010/ 11, the first men's team pulled together with the license for the league ASOBAL into the capital, Madrid, to acquire more money from sponsors and spectators can. So BM Atlético de Madrid received a place in the league ASOBAL in the season 2011 /12.
