Bob McGill

Robert Paul "Bob" McGill (* April 27, 1962 in Leduc, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach. During his career he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders and Hartford Whalers in the National Hockey League.

Career

McGill played for two years from 1979 to 1981 at the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League. With these he won at the end of the season 1980/81 the President's Cup, the championship trophy of the WHL, and then took part with the team at the Memorial Cup. The defender was able to score good points in two WHL years, sat in two seasons, but also each well over 200 minutes on the penalty bench.

After the Canadians had been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980 in the second round to 26th position of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he took them to the 1981/82 season under contract. There he spent his entire rookie season before he accrues the following two seasons in both the farm team in the American Hockey League as well as the NHL team. For the 1984/85 season McGill managed to finally take the plunge into the trunk of the Maple Leafs squad. In the summer of 1987, Toronto was the defender into a comprehensive five players transfer business to the Chicago Blackhawks, where McGill spent the seasons from 1987 to 1991 and in the 1989/90 season with twelve points from 69 games did his best NHL season. After he left unprotected in the NHL Expansion Draft in 1991, he played in the 1991/92 season for the San Jose Sharks, for their squad filling the expansion draft was held. After nine months, in March 1992, transferred the Sharks McGill for the Swede Johan Garpenlöv to the Detroit Red Wings, where he spent the rest of the season, before later in the summer of 1992, initially to the Tampa Bay Lightning and a few weeks back to the Toronto Maple Leafs went. However, for this he only played a few games, as well for the New York Islanders and Hartford Whalers, to which he was changed in the following years. He finished his NHL career before the season 1994 / 95th De last games he played for the Chicago Wolves of the International Hockey League game in 1995 /96 apply.

After his playing career McGill worked for some time as a coach. From 1996 to 1998 he filled the job of assistant coach with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. For the 1998/99 season, he took over for two years the post of head coach at the Baton Rouge Kingfish of the East Coast Hockey League. His last coaching position was the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League in the season 2004/05.
