Boccaccio '70

Boccaccio '70 is an Italian anthology film from the year 1962 by the directors Mario Monicelli, Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Vittorio De Sica on an idea by Cesare Zavattini. The film is an anthology of four episodes, one for each director, each of which deals with a different aspect of morality and love in modern times, in the style of Giovanni Boccaccio.

The four original episodes were:

  • Renzo e Luciana ( Mario Monicelli )
  • La tentazione del dottor Antonio ( Federico Fellini )
  • Il lavoro ( Luchino Visconti )
  • La riffa ( Vittorio De Sica )

The first episode of Monicelli was present only in the Italian distributor of the film. From solidarity to Monicelli the other three directors did not appear at the Film Festival of Cannes to present her film.

Contents I: Renzo e Luciana ( Renzo and Luciana )

In Renzo e Luciana, a young couple tries to hide his marriage and the alleged pregnancy before the draconian accountant of their employer. This forbade all staff relationships. You have no apartment and meet some in remote areas of the factory. The strict accountant but cheap adventures himself is not averse to the detriment of female employees.

Contents II: Le tentazioni del dottor Antonio ( The Temptation )

In Fellini's episode Peppino De Filippo plays the uptight moralist Dr. Antonio Mazzuolo, the one built outside his apartment advertising wall on which a voluptuous Anita Ekberg promotes milk, increasingly robs the mind. Ekberg et al appears to him several times as a giantess who followed him in the night and Rome in one revolution of the King Kong constellation captures by hand. Mazzuolo is between moral outrage, disgust and love for her torn. He is completely confused brought down the following morning by the fire from the Advertising skeleton and taken away in an ambulance.

Content III: Lavoro ( The Job )

In Visconti's episode film Romy Schneider plays a young countess, who discovers that her husband regularly seeks out luxury callgirls. She tells him that she is tired of useless life and also want to look for a job. Since she has, however, learned nothing, the only option is to surrender to him for payment. He presented the proposal.

Content IV: La riffa ( The first prize )

Sophia Loren plays Zoe, an attractive shooting gallery owner offered from financial hardship as first prize in a lottery with 70 lots. The winner gets to spend a night with her. The prices for the lots to rise to new heights. But then she falls in love with the jealous Gaetano.
