Boldog, Slovakia

Boldog (until 1960 slovak " Matka Bozia "; Hungarian Pozsonyboldogfa - to 1907 Boldogfa, older even Boldogfalva ) is a municipality in Okres Senec within the Bratislavský kraj in Slovakia.

Geography

The place is located in the Danubian Lowland, 5 km northeast of the city Senec and 23 km southwest of Trnava located.

History

Boldog was first mentioned in 1245 as Tulwej. A place there is, however, only in 1351 mentioned as Toluoyfolua. 1358 was the place with the neighboring estate Saaralia the Poor Clares of Old Buda. These two settlements then united called to a place called Boldogasszonyfalva, after the patron saint of the local church, beatified Mary.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Pressburg in the Kingdom of Hungary, after which he joined the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938-45 was the place on the basis of the First Vienna Award again in Hungary. The church oriented to Slovak name Matka Bozia ( "Mother of God ") was changed in 1960 in favor of the Hungarian name in Boldog.

Others

In the original Romanesque, Baroque style church today from the 13th century, a limestone plateau in 1976 at a renovation with Roman inscription found. By the time of the creation around the year 100 is one of the oldest inscriptions of this kind in the present-day Slovakia, even before the famous inscription on a rock in Trenčín.
