Boult, Haute-Saône

Boult is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Boult is located at an altitude of 245 m above sea level, 7 km southwest of Rioz and about 16 km north of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the south of the department, to the north of the Valley of the Ognon in the wide valley of the Tounolle on the southern edge of the heights of the Bois du Chanois.

The area of ​​14.62 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The central part of the area is crossed from north to south from the Valley of Tounolle that provides drainage for Ognon. The trough of Boult, which is on average 260 m, is fertile due to its alluvial soils and is farmed intensively. To the east the land rises slowly, and the community area extends to the wooded range of hills ( up to 315 m), which separates the valleys of Tounolle and Buthiers. These heights consist mainly of limestone of the Upper Jurassic time. In the north, the municipality floor extends into the vast forest area of the Bois du Chanois. Here the highest elevation of Boult is achieved with 351 m.

Boult to the hamlet of La Tounolle (235 m) is in the little valley of the river of the same name. Neighboring communities of Boult are Montarlot -lès- Rioz in the north, Sorans -lès -Breurey in the east, Voray -sur- l'Ognon, Bussières and Boulot in the south and Chaux -la- Lotière in the West.

History

The place name derives from the old French word boul (birch). In the Middle Ages Boult was part of the Franche-Comté and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The rule Boult was first mentioned in the year 1140. It extended over several villages. 1535 reached the area in the possession of Cardinal de Granvelle Antoine Perrenot. Together with the Franche -Comté came Boult with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. During the 18th and 19th century the village beyond the region was known for its faience factory. Today Boult is a member of the comprehensive 28 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Maurice was built in the 18th century and has a rich interior of this period. Also from the 18th century comes the Château de Boult. In the old town several houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. The Lavoir, former laundry and watering cattle, was built in 1820.

Population

With 544 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Boult is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 694 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Boult was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Rioz after Etuz. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 14 km. Further road links exist with Montarlot -lès- Rioz Voray -sur- l'Ognon, Bussières and Chaux -la- Lotière.
