Bourguignon- lès- Morey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bourguignon- lès- Morey is located at an altitude of 302 m above sea level, 14 km west of Combeaufontaine and 35 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the west of the département, in the rolling countryside on the southeast edge of the plateau of Langres, a slightly elevated position on the eastern flank of the rigotte, at the western foot of the Montagne de la Roche.

The area of ​​9.84 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau northwest of the Saônetals. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the rigotte that provides for drainage Saône. The flood plain is on average 250 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. Flanked the valley on its north-western side of the heights of the plateau of Langres ( Popo, 326 m; Châtoillon, 322 m). To the east and south initiates up to 150 m high, wooded bluff ( Bois de Bourguignon ) on the high ridges of the Montagne de la Roche and the northerly adjacent Pain de Beurre. On the Point de Vue is the highest elevation of Bourguignon- lès- Morey is achieved with 447 m. In geological terms is the bedrock of sedimentary layers of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic), while the Montagne de la Roche is composed predominantly of limestone of the Middle Jurassic.

Neighboring communities of Bourguignon- lès- Morey are Pressigny and Charmes- Saint- Valbert in the north, La Roche- Morey in the east, Fouvent -Saint- Andoche in the south and Farincourt and Voncourt in the West.

History

The area of Bourguignon been inhabited since prehistoric times. The earliest evidence of human presence a Neolithic Wall system is obtained. Even the Gallo- Roman period was here a settlement site. In the Middle Ages Bourguignon belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The area was part of the reign of the first Morey Vergy the family since the 14th century the Montfaucon and since the 16th century belonged to the Rye. As a border town Bourguignon suffered greatly during the wars in the 16th and 17th centuries. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Bourguignon- lès- Morey is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines.

Attractions

The village church of Bourguignon- lès- Morey was rebuilt in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. Parts of the earlier building, in particular the Gothic chancel and side chapels from the 16th century has been integrated into the new building. The church houses a statue of Saint Anne from the 15th century. In the village, many houses have been preserved, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. In the Maison du Patrimoine is an archaeological museum ( only open in July and August ). A tower testifies to the former seat of power.

Population

With 55 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bourguignon- lès- Morey is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, a significant population decline was recorded (1891 314 persons were still counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Bourguignon- lès- Morey is still a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Pierrecourt after Malvillers. Further road links exist with Morey and Pressigny.
