History

1203 Brabecke is first mentioned in a document. In the resort stayed at that time the Knights Albert and Leonius of Brabecke and Herbold of Meschede. The whereabouts of the Knights of Brabecke is not known historically from 1326. Built Godard Knights of Meschede 1328 Brabecke a solid house or a small castle, which the lords Count Wilhelm von Arnsberg was under the county of Arnsberg. The building survived until 1740. In 1427 more buildings are mentioned. After Dietrich of Meschede had its headquarters relocated in 1471 after Alme, took over bailiffs Barbeckes administration. 1645 branck was charted on the map Westphalia Ducatus.

In 1459 Godert of Meschede received the investiture with the Fronhofe or Haupthofe Köttinghausen and related rights by the Mescheder pen. He had to provide for the collection of goods to be delivered to the Mescheder pin charges by summoning all hooves owner for a certain day to a place, to recover the leasehold. The owner of the Fronhofes Köttinghausen has to have probably made a good deal, while the ladies of Meschede was not too much, or not less than eight members of families of low or service nobility would have been in 1666 divided into the rights of this one main court. These must have been able to bring the hooves owner in greater dependence, than they were formerly against the pin Meschede: because the convent had no serfdom these hooves owner, just as the Benedictine abbey county in the neighboring office Fredeburg, since both monasteries with the fixed charges were content to. However, once held the noble families, that of Meschede, von Westphalen Hopp corner to Holdinghausen, Schorlemer to Heringhausen, Twiste (of Wulmeringhausen ) and Hanxlede (of Wolmeringhauen ) the justices of the court Köttinghausen, they considered the dependent peasants as serfs and treated them accordingly. It clearly states that in the old files of the pin Meschede, that the nobles own people possess, the serfs were called in the vernacular and were obliged to perform services. The Mescheder Damenstift went all the complaints and complaints to be paid by the leaseholder of the court nobility Köttinghausen charges more sparse, until the Fronhof was completely lost.

Brabecke had primacy. The relocation of the seat Alme had the Lords of Meschede their representatives for the Kolonatsdörfer Brabecke, Old Field, Osterwald and Westernbödefeld ( so-called Almischen villages) in Brabecke. These were the Vogt and the Schulze. Extremely enlightening on the obligations of serfs in the places Brabecke, Old Field, Osterwald and Westernbödefeld affects a manuscript from 1670, in which each individual serfs had to place on record its traditional obligations under oath. The swearing-in took on December 11, 1670 of public notary and civil Mescheder John Friederici on behalf of Messrs. Leo von Emmerich Holdinghausen and Ferdinand Melchior from Meschede to Brabecke before and in the presence of the pastor Math Schmülling and the chamberlain Franz Becker, both from Bödefeld. The possession of each serf and his obligations was because " all previously quoted also appeared disobedience ", written down exactly, " therefore a high nothdurf found to be ". This significant, 128 small quarto pages full document has been preserved luckily. This document is known as almisches stock book, in which the one Assen stated for the record, what land they cultivate and what duties they perform. To log the serfdom was taken. However, had no negative effect. Especially in Westernbödefeld where some one could show Assen charters, this ultimately serfdom were. In general, the farms were affected by the levy referred to in Arnsberg about the Vogt ( land tax), the monastery to Meschede, to the Lords of Alme and church duties. The stresses were overwhelming. Are mentioned for 1670 Brabecke Hermann Stofers, Tonis Adam, Hans Dohle, Roettger Cordes, John Martins, Tonis Kremers, Hermann Bremerich ( Vogt ), Johann Bremerich ( Schulte ) and Hans Henrich Tüteler. These names or house lots are now under the term Stöbers, Thünes, Jackdaw, choir, Mehrs ( Vogers stable place), Chandler, Vogers, Schulte, and bag coupler. In addition to these nine coloni there since the 17th century still a hunter (House Dude ) and numerous Beilieger ( Shepherd, craftsmen ).

William Roettger of Meschede seized on August 25, 1684 owned by Castle Brabecke. On February 17, 1745 bought Adam Dietrich of Meschede in the court in Bödefeld for 3800 Reichstaler the hanxledischen part of the goods Brabecke.

The village was dominated by agriculture until the 19th century. Change was not until around 1850 in the neighboring village Ramsbeck ore mining boomed. Some Sense dealer Brabecke benefited up in the 1930s by mining. Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine -Westphalia Brabecke belonged to the municipality Bödefeld country. Since 1 January 1975 Brabecke is a district of the town of Schmallenberg.
