Brad Schlegel

Bradley Wilfred Schlegel ( born July 22, 1968 in Kitchener, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player.

Career

Clubs

Brad Schlegel began his hockey career in 1985 with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League. There the right shooting offensive defender drew attention to himself, especially in his third season, when he collected 101 points scorer in 78 games. NHL Entry Draft 1988, he was drawn by the Washington Capitals in a total of 144 point. After he played between 1988 and 1991 for Team Canada, brought him to the Capitals 1991/92 season in their team. However, he was constantly shuttled in his first two NHL - years between Washington and its farm team from Baltimore ( AHL ). That's why he moved in 1993 to the Calgary Flames, where he but also sporadically was used.

A year later he changed to Europe for EC SV Villach, where Schlegel took back with 45 points from 40 games to its former strength. Due to its good performance in Austria the EC Hannover became aware of him and took him to the DEL under contract. However, the stint ended after only a few uses and Schlegel returned to Villach, where he played until 2000 for VSV. Also during his second exposures in Austria, he convinced with high scoring rates. In 1997 he was elected to the All- Star team in the Alps league. For the season 2000/ 01 he moved to Germany again to the Schwenningen Wild Wings.

Only a year later committed him the Cologne Sharks, with whom Schlegel wanted to play for the championship, and since he did not see this opportunity in Schwenningen. In his first season in Cologne this wish was fulfilled: At the end of a turbulent year, he won the German championship with the sharks. 2002/ 03 he was runner-up with the people of Cologne, 2004, he won with the KEC the trophy. By 2006, Schlegel always one of the best players and was also team captain at KEC since the 2004/ 05 season. Middle of the season but he was thrown back by a cruciate ligament injury, with the consequences of which he had to fight for a long time and because of this he missed many games. After the 2005/06 season in which he reached the semi-finals with the KEC, he decided a change to the Hannover Scorpions. After a season in Hanover, he ended his active career.

Internationally

Since the beginning of his career Schlegel played repeatedly for Canadian selection team. From 1988 to 1991 he played exclusively for the national team. 1991, 1992, 1995 and 2002, he participated in the World Championships for his country. He won the 1991 silver and three years later bronze. He also played at the Olympic Winter Games in 1992 and 1994, where she won the silver medal each.
