Brad Spence

Brad Spence ( born April 19, 1984 in Calgary, Alberta ) is a Canadian alpine skier. He is since 2001 the squads of the Canadian Ski Association. At the beginning of his career he started in all disciplines, after a serious injury and several years of break from racing he takes since 2008 almost exclusively in slalom and giant slalom race part.

Biography

Spence began at the age of six years with the skiing. He played his first international competitions Trofeo Topolino in Italy during 1999, when he finished second in the giant slalom and third in slalom. As of December 1999 Spence participated in FIS races, four months later, the first missions followed in Nor- Am Cup. In December 2000, he won his first FIS races and in January 2001 he first came in the Nor- Am Cup in the points.

From 2002 to 2004 Spence participated in three World Junior Championships and went there three times in the top ten: In 2003, he finished eighth in the downhill and in 2004 he finished fourth in the super -G and ninth in the downhill. Already on 1 December 2002, he came in the Super G in Lake Louise to his debut in the World Cup. However, he could not finish the race. Over the next two seasons followed by three more bets in the World Cup, where he did not finish in the points.

In the Nor- Am Cup the Canadians succeeded in season 2002/ 03 the connection to the top. With second place in the downhill and finished third in the Super G in Lake Louise, he scored his first podium and reached fifth place in the super-G standings and tenth place in the exit classification. In the 2003 /04 season, another podium finish followed in the Super G in Lake Louise, and he finished in this discipline again fifth overall. In the 2004/05 season he scored four podiums (3x Super -G and 1 slalom) and a further five top-10 results, which he placed third in the overall standings and each second place in the slalom and super-G standings.

From the beginning of the season 2005/ 06 Spence was a regular on the World Cup for use, but not yet in the points. In the Super G in Lake Louise, he suffered an injury in late November at the shoulder. Much more serious were the consequences of the fall in downhill training in Bormio on December 28, 2005. Spence suffered inter alia, a tibia and fibula fracture in his right leg and torn ligaments in his knee and was then almost three years incur no race.

Since the serious injury Spence starts in the world and Nor- Am Cup slalom in only and giant slalom competitions. His comeback he gave on 2 December 2008 in a Nor -Am Cup slalom in Loveland. Only two days later, he stood in the slalom in Winter Park on the podium again. Then he was able to classify in most races in the top five and secure with his two victories in the giant slalom at Nakiska and the slalom in Lake Placid in the 2008 /09 season victory in this discipline ratings as well as third place in the overall standings. On 1 March 2009 he won his second World Cup race after severe injury, the slalom in Kranjska Gora, 13th the first World Cup points. His previous best World Cup result he reached on 21 December 2009 with twelfth place in the slalom in Alta Badia. This result he was able to repeat the Slalom of Kitzbühel on 24 January 2010. At the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver, however, he only reached the 42nd place in the giant slalom and the slalom fell out. In March 2010 he was Canadian champion in giant slalom.

In the season 2010/11 Spence drove in four World Cup Slalom is the fastest 20 in the winter of 2011/12 there were five. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he scored after a serious error in the second round, however, only the 38th place in the slalom.
