Brent Larkham

Brent Larkham ( born January 8, 1972 in Canberra ) is an Australian former tennis player.

Life

Larkhams parents owned a tennis center, and both worked as a tennis coach. Both Brent and his two years younger brother Todd were therefore brought up from childhood to the sport of tennis. In 1991 he became a professional tennis player, and first played on the ATP Tour Challenger below the settled ATP Satellite tournaments. In the first year he was able to win two of these tournaments and thus first world ranking points. In 1992 he won at the side of the British artist Darren Kirk, the Challenger tournament in Bristol, where he was also able to reach the quarter-finals in the individual competition. His first individual title he won in 1993 in Launceston Tasmania by a final victory against Nicklas Utgren. In tournaments, the ATP World Tour, he already failed mostly in the qualification, a notable exception were the Queen 's Club Championships in 1994 when he defeated Patrick McEnroe and was defeated in the second round Stefan Edberg.

Throughout his career, he was two single titles and three double titles on the Challenger Tour win. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1994 with position 108 in single and in 1995 with position 128 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at the Australian Open in 1994, where he was victorious in the second round against Amos Mans village. In the doubles competition he qualified between 1994 and 1996 in three consecutive years for the Australian Open, but failed each in the first round.

In 1998 he resigned due to a back injury from professional sports. After the end of his playing career, he worked as a tennis coach, among other things for his brother Todd, Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley and Richard Fromberg. Since 2006, Larkham 's head coach at the Australian Institute of Sport.
