Brian Lynch (musician)

Brian Hollister Lynch ( born September 12, 1956 in Urbana, Illinois) is an American trumpeter and flugelhorn player of modern jazz.

Life and work

Lynch grew up in Milwaukee up in a musical family; the father was an amateur trumpeter. From 1975 to 1980 he was taught at the Music Conservatory of Wisconsin and then made private studies with Doug Myers ( 1972-1973 ) and Lonnie Hillyer ( 1981-1982 ). He initially joined in groups to Buddy Montgomery and organist Melvin Rhyne to. 1980/81 he played in San Diego with Charles McPherson and Rob Schneiderman. In 1981, he moved to New York City, where he was also the mediation of Claudio Roditi work at Eddie Palmieri and other salsa bands. From 1982 he was also a member of the Quartet of Horace Silver in Junior Cook and Jack McDuff; He also played in the orchestra of Toshiko Akiyoshi (up to 1988). He also worked at Mel Lewis and George Russell, to then become a member of the Jazz Messengers. Lynch is a university professor at New York University, but also keeps trumpets workshops at other institutions. 2012/13 he is Artist in Residence at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
