The route took substantially with respect to the built under Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte emperor street.

Route

Development and transport hubs

The A63 begins in the south of Mainz as an extension of the B 40 largely follows the earlier you over the B 40, which was downgraded to a country road in the course of construction of the A 63.

A ride on the A63 offers a good view over the Rhine Hessian hills and the North Palatine Uplands. The section between Alzey and Kaiserslautern via many smaller climbs and descents through the sparsely populated area in Donnersbergkreis. Especially the cruises on the viaducts provide magnificent views over the south-western region of Rhineland- Palatinate.

The highway has three transportation hubs. The highway begins near the motorway junction Mainz -Süd, sums up in the middle of the route is the motorway junction Alzey and the highway ends at the motorway junction Kaiserslautern.

Extension

Since November 2009 the distance between the motorway junction Mainz -Süd junction Nieder-Olm has developed six lanes. The respective acceleration lane of Nieder-Olm direction Mainz and the transition from the A 60 from direction Bingen am Rhein to Nieder- Olm this were rebuilt for the third lane. After about 7 km from both directions they go about in a deceleration lanes for the exit Nieder-Olm and reconciliation to the A60 towards Frankfurt am Main.

For this purpose, the original hard shoulder of small winter home was structurally reinforced to the junction Nieder-Olm, so that it can be used as an additional third lane between mid-September and end-December 2007. First, this was also used by early May to mid-August 2008, at the opposite lane to move on this road, so a basic renewal of the road between Nieder-Olm and small winter home could take place. Then the deceleration lanes junction small winter home was moved further to the right until December 9, 2008, so now could be made a continuous six-lane road layout from the junction Nieder-Olm and cross Mainz -Süd to relieve the morning rush over a wider lanes can because this place happen daily up to 60,000 vehicles. With the removal of the side panel additional emergency lay-bys were necessary.

This was followed until November 2009, the basic rehabilitation of the roadway of small winter home towards Nieder-Olm and noise protection for the lying right on the highway community Ober-Olm has been improved. The connection point small winter home was moved further to the right to consistently have between cross Mainz -Süd and Nieder-Olm also three lanes available. Since the third lane had to give way on this side of the side strips, the emergency stopping bays have been created already for the repair of 2007.

Since early November 2009, the roadworks between Nieder-Olm and small winter home are completed. Between April and September 2011 new gantries and more intelligent traffic sign systems and surveillance cameras from Funkwerk at full stretch for a Temporary hard shoulder (TSF ) were built on this section. The cameras are used to transport telematics to (accidents and mishaps ) to lock in dangerous situations the hard shoulder after a previous release again. Since April 16, 2012, the TSF is in operation.

In April 2013, the construction work for the expansion and extension began the TSF of Nieder-Olm to extend by Saulheim, since there is a parcel center of Deutsche Post DHL in Saulheim. The works were originally intended, according to the construction site information sign, take until July 2013, were then extended by one month to then be further extended until December 2013 in September.

Speed limits

Speed limits there are on the track in the area of the triangle Kaiserslautern (100 km / h), between Sembach and Winnweiler and Biebelnheim direction Woerrstadt (130 km / h). Between Nieder-Olm and small winter home to a modern traffic control system is capable of switching between 130 km / h and 100 km / h until the end of the motorway Mainz. On the remaining distance towards Mainz B 40, then valid only 70 km / h from noise reasons.

Importance for traffic

The A 63 connects the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Kaiserslautern and Mainz each other. Therefore, the first motorway has regional character. Only the completed on 15 October 2004 expansion of the motorway shortens the journey between the Saarland and France and the Rhine- Main area. However, traffic density is (apart from the catchment area of the city of Mainz with almost 60,000 vehicles daily ) rather low.

In addition, the highway is to go to the land forces U.S. Army Europe in Wiesbaden Lucius D. Clay Kaserne for the American armed forces, the fastest connection between their headquarters, the United States Air Forces in Europe Ramstein Air Base near Kaiserslautern.

Both projects were in August 2008, on the authority of the competent authority, not yet approved. Half a year later, the first facts and results on briefings should be announced.
