Sembach

Sembach is a municipality in the district of Kaiserslautern, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Enkenbach- Alsenborn.

Geography

Location

The community lies on the edge of the Palatinate Forest near the city of Kaiserslautern. Adjacent communities are Mehlingen, Neuhemsbach, Enkenbach- Alsenborn and Wartenberg -Rohrbach.

History

In the 13th century, was the occasion of a donation to the monastery sink Bach, the place first mentioned. Before the French Revolution, the village belonged to the piston of Wartenberg. End of the 18th century Sembach was French and benefited from the construction of the Emperor Napoleon road from Paris to Mainz, and the venue was on a cross-regional traffic route and 1809 coaching inn. Due to the decisions on the Congress of Vienna ( 1815) came Sembach 1816 the Kingdom of Bavaria and was part of the Rhine circle. Belonging to Bayern ended at the end of the Second World War. Since 1946 Sembach is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Religions

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " divided by silver and red, topped with a silver heart sign with a red bar, beseitet from above two, down a red ball, growing up a blue -dressed man with a stocking cap, supported the Left in the hip, in his right hand a red flask holding, down a golden post horn ".

It was 1954, approved by the Ministry of Interior and Mainz was the coat of arms of the former local lords, the piston of Wartenberg borrowed.

Culture and sights

The Mennonite Church was built in 1777. Since 2011, in addition to this a modern community center is being built.

The foundation for the Protestant Church was laid on 13 May in 1773. Due to lack of funds, the construction dragged on until it was finally inaugurated in 1791.

Traffic

Sembach is located on the former imperial road, national road 401 ( former Federal Road 40). One kilometer away from the motorway is 63 ( Kaiserslautern Mainz) with the junction Sembach. Frankfurt is 107 km, to Kaiserslautern ( downtown) is about 11 kilometers.

American plants

1951, the American Sembach Air Base was built and created the housing development Heuberg. The headquarters of the 17th U.S. Air Force (17th Air Force) was disbanded in 1994. Private Schools Class K -3 ( Sembach Elementary School ) and 4-8 ( Sembach Middle School ) and some administrative buildings and residential accommodation are still in American hands. This area is called " Sembach Annex". The only European military prison to be moved from the Coleman Barracks in Mannheim to Sembach.

The airfield is no longer American owned.

Economy

On the site of the former military airfield of the business park Sembach originated with an area of ​​226 hectares, which is one of the largest conversion projects in Rhineland- Palatinate. In various companies that have settled there, a total of about 450 people work.
