Burnet (pronounced [ bɜrnɪt ] ) is the county seat of Burnet County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located just southeast of the geographical center of Texas and almost centrally in the county, 75 km northwest of Austin and has a total area of 17.7 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The first immigrants from Europe people settled here already in 1849. The city was founded in 1852 under the name of Hamilton, by John Hamilton, one of the first settlers in this place. In the same year, the Burnet County the first county courthouse was formed and built, which was Burnet Courthouse, also opened the first post office in the.

1857 35 people lived in the town and in 1858 Hamilton was renamed in Burnet. The next significant population boom took place until 1882 when the town was connected to the Austin and Northwestern Railroad. After that, Burnet developed a trading center of this area. The city was chartered the place in 1933.

23.9 % of the population were under 18 years old, 9.5 % from 18 to 24, 29.9% 25-44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.8 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 74.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 68.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 27,093, and the median income for a family $ 37,604. Males had a median income of $ 25,663 versus $ 17,163 for females.
