Buzău

Buzău [ buzəu̯ ] ( dt: Busäu ) is the county town in the eponymous district ( Judet ) in the historical region of Wallachia, Romania.

The city had about 133,000 inhabitants in 2003.

Economy

The city is among other things, the location of a plant for railway concrete sleepers of Pfleiderer AG.

Cityscape

Buzău is located on the eponymous river in the south-eastern foothills of the Carpathians. Although Buzău was highly systematized under Nicolae Ceauşescu ( demolition of older, smaller houses, construction of numerous prefabricated ), there are to visit in the city, some monuments. In the first place the symbol of the city, the Palatul Comunal (City Hall) from 1903, a castle- like building was constructed in typical Romanian Brancovenesti style. Municipal Theatre and the Tribunal are other buildings from this time. The buildings in the Complexul Episcopal ( bishop's seat ) are older, they are from the 17th - 19th Century: The Episcopal Church, the Rector's Palace and the theological seminary. In the Strada Cuza Voda, the pedestrian zone in the historic heart of Buzau, some interesting houses from the 19th century are still preserved. Right on Buzău borders of large, very beautiful landscape park " Crâng ". About 20 kilometers north-west of Buzau, at the village Berca, are the mud volcanoes of Berca, one of the most exotic natural sights in Europe.
