Çardak

Çardak is the capital of the district of the Turkish province of Denizli. Çardak lies about 56 km east of the provincial capital of Denizli and has 4,586 inhabitants ( as of December 2010). With the associated villages and small towns, the population is 9,454.

The city was built by the Seljuks as Körin (from Old Turkish köri for bellows ) founded in 1105. This has been developed in the course of time the name Çardak. The caravanserai of Hanabad was built in the 13th century during the Seljuk rule of local rulers Esedüddin Ayaz. It is a typical Seljuk caravanserai; on their stones are mapped fish, cows and human relics. Çardak was until 1958 a village with about 2000 inhabitants. Thereafter, the city grew and became a separate district of the province of Denizli.

The Denizli Çardak airport is located 5 km southeast of Çardak. Services for the airport have a large share in the economic life of the city.
