Buldan is the capital of the district of the Turkish province of Denizli. Buldan located about 45 km northwest of the provincial capital of Denizli. Buldan had at the last census 15,086 inhabitants ( as of December 2010). With the associated villages and small towns, the population is about 27 092.

The administrative area of buldan is divided into 14 Districts, Bursa Mah, Cumhuriyet Mah, Çarşı Mah, Çaybaşı Mah, Dort Eylul Mah, Düzalan Mah, Girne Mah, Gölbaşı Mah, Güroluk Mah, Helvacılar Mah, Karşıyaka Mah, Kurtuluş Mah, Turan Mah and Yalçınkaya Mah, each managed by a Muhtar.

History

The city was founded by the Seljuk Turks in the 13th century as Buladan. The importance of the old name is translated as an important wood. Bul is in Old Turkic for wood and adan is significant. This has been developed over the history of the city the name buldan. Buldan was during the Seljuk period under the rule of Germiyanoğulları Beyliği and belonged to the Ottoman Empire the Vilayet -i Aydın on.

Culture and sights

Near the small town Yenicekent are the ruins of the ancient city of Tripoli. Another attraction of buldan is the idyllic Kestane Deresi (Eng. "Chestnut Bach" ), one situated in the upper parts of the city trip point.

Economy and infrastructure

As in Denizli, there are many companies in the textile and clothing industry in buldan. Ottoman documents of the 17th century mention buldan as a textile production center, which was one of the most famous jean manufacturer of the Ottoman Empire until the year 1650. Since the industrialization of Turkey, the number of looms increased in buldan. In 2003, the number of looms was in buldan about 3000, and the number of looms dropped to about 30, the production and export is done by Kobi ( Küçük ve Orta Büyüklükteki İşletmeler, German Small and medium enterprises ). In 2003 buldan exported to the following countries: Bulgaria, Germany, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, Spain (all EU), Algeria, Israel, Jordan, Canada, Macedonia, Switzerland, Ukraine and Russia. In 2003 buldan exported textiles worth 2.5 million U.S. dollars.
