Cassiopeia Dwarf

The Cassiopeia dwarf galaxy or Andromeda VII is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia and, together with Pegasus II discovered in 1998 by a Russian- Ukrainian team of astronomers ( Karachentsev and Karachentseva ).

The dwarf galaxy is part of the Local Group and satellite galaxy of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31 ). The galaxy is located at a distance of about 790 kpc from the solar system and is approaching this with a speed of approximately 307 km / s

The Cassiopeia dwarf galaxy (as well as Pegasus II) are further away from M31 than their previously known satellites, however, appear to be gravitationally bound to it. The galaxy also shows little evidence of young, massive stars, such as traces of recent star formation. The stellar population is dominated by a very old stellar population with an age of up to 10 billion years ago.
