Castile and León

Castile and León (Spanish Castilla y León ) is a Spanish autonomous community. The seat of government is Valladolid.

Geography and Outline

Castile and León includes the Nordmeseta, one lying between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, bounded by mountain ranges in the northwest plateau of central Spain, which is drained by the Duero.

The western part is the historical landscape Leon, Old Castile, known as the central and eastern part belongs to the historical landscape of Castile. Castile and León includes the provinces of:

With 94,223 km ² land area, the autonomous region is slightly larger than the neighboring Portugal. It thus extends over 18.6 % of Spain's land mass, but notes with a population density of 27 inhabitants per km ² (Portugal: 115.1 inhabitants per km ²) only 5.7 % of the population of Spain dar.

Economy

Expressed in comparison with the EU GDP in purchasing power standards, the region reached an index of 100 ( EU-27: 100 ) (2006 ). The unemployment rate in 2005 was 8.7%.
