Catalonia national football team
The Catalan football selection ( Catalan: Selecció Catalana de Futbol ) is that of the FCF ( Federació Catalana de Futbol ) established Catalan national football team. The Selecció Catalana can not participate in international tournaments of UEFA and FIFA, as the Catalan Football Federation ( FCF) previously attempted unsuccessfully for admission to the international associations.
History
Catalonia played in 1904 against Espanyol the first batch. However, the first international match in 1912 against France took place, as was previously only played against club teams. Since then, the selection takes place in a more or less long intervals against national, association, non-officially recognized national teams such as the Basque Country. In recent years, the Catalans could also compete with extremely well-known opponents such as Nigeria, Argentina and Brazil.
As part of the meetings of the Catalan selection, with periodic political rallies for the independence of Catalonia and against the Spanish central government.
In early November 2009, it was announced that Johan Cruyff new coach of the Catalan selection. On 22 December 2009 the Catalan selection played against Argentina and won 4-2.
