Châbles ( Freiburg Patois Tsâbyo? / I ) is a municipality in the canton of Fribourg Broyebezirk in Switzerland.

Geography

Châbles is a village within the exclave of Estavayer -le- Lac. The community is located directly on Lake Neuchâtel vis- à -vis the Jura chain. Whole five communities Freiburg ( Cheyres, Murist, Lully (FR), Châtillon and Estavayer -le- Lac) adjacent to the municipality. The construction of the A1 motorway close by has changed the landscape considerably.

Population

Languages

A small minority of about 10 % speaks German. Otherwise the population is French speaking.

Religions - faiths

More than 60 % of the population is Roman Catholic. A larger minority of 20 % is Protestant. The remaining 20 % are mainly non-denominational.

Economy

More than half of the workforce is employed in the primary sector ( agriculture). The construction of the A1 motorway, new households have settled. The increase of workers takes place mainly in the industrial and service sectors.

Tourism

Tourism also recorded in recent years an increase. In particular, the proximity of Lake Neuchâtel and the tranquility of the area attracts the tourists.

Traffic

A regular bus service which connects the Transports publics Fribourgeois Châbles with Estavayer -le- Lac. With the A1, it has become much easier to come to Bern or Lausanne.

History

The area around Châbles was settled very early. At La Cernia on the eastern outskirts of the village a two-lane Roman road was discovered during the construction of the highway.

1628 Châbles is badly affected by the plague and in 1642 by fire. Until 1798 Châbles belonged to the Bailiwick of font and Vuissens. 1801, the Grande Commune Font Châbles -Châtillon is dissolved. 1809, the statutes of the commune are determined.
