Chauny

Chauny is a commune with 11,771 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aisne in the Picardie region; it belongs to the district of Laon, is the capital of the canton of Chauny and seat of the municipal association Chauny - Tergnier.

Geography

Chauny lies on the Oise Oise and the parallel lateral canal, 34 kilometers from Soissons, 36 miles from Laon and 30 kilometers from Saint- Quentin. Near Chauny branch two shipping channels from the Oise - side channel from:

  • The Canal de Saint- Quentin ( to the north )
  • The Oise -Aisne Canal ( to the south ).
