Cho Polu

The Cho Polu is a six-thousand in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Its north ridge is connected to the eastern part of the Lhotse wall. Adjacent mountains are in the east of Makalu, north of Shartsey, itself part of the Lhotse wall. Between Shartsey and Cho Polu a pass is ( Col Hardie, 6183 m). Southern neighbors are Num Ri and Baruntse, the west lies the Iceland peak.

Climbing history

The Cho Polu was first climbed on November 1, 1984, the Spaniards Nil Bohigas. He ascended this mountain here illegally ( without a permit ). This ascent was for many years disputed, but it is now listed in the Himalayan Database of Elizabeth Hawley. On 12 November 1999 Olaf Rieck, Dieter Rülker, Markus Walter and Günter Jung managed the second ascent ( on the north wall ).

According to a book by Jan Kielkowski the mountain had been climbed before 1999, three times on the North Ridge. However, Norman Hardie was according to their own duties never on the top and has never claimed. The top photo of a Japanese expedition, 1964, the ascent can be announced, beyond reasonable doubt Cho Polu in the distance.
