Christian Howes (American)

Christian Howes Llewellyn ( born February 21, 1972 in Rocky River, Ohio) is an American jazz violinist, arranger and composer.

Howe grew up in a middle-class neighborhood in Columbus and was a gifted early on the violin. Its development was a setback when he was sentenced to a long prison sentence for drug-related offenses, of which he was serving four years. He then moved from classical music to jazz, which he moved to New York. He has a degree in philosophy from Ohio State University. He now lives back in Columbus. After he had been an associate professor at Berklee College of Music, he now teaches of Columbus from, among others, since 2003 on a Creative Strings Workshop. He also gave courses at various universities as Oberlin College.

Howes played with Randy Brecker, Steve Turre, guitarist Joel Harrison, DD Jackson, Greg Osby, Dafnis Prieto, Caribbean Jazz Project by Dave Samuels, in Soul Grass by Bill Evans, with Spyro Gyra and guitarist Les Paul.

He made ​​several albums, among others at Resonance Records on: Heartfelt (2008), Out of the Blue (2010) and Southern Exposure (2012, with Richard Galliano).

In 2011 he won the Critics Poll of Down Beat in the Rising Star category for violin and violinist was the year of the Jazz Journalists Association.

He also plays bass, guitar, viola.
