Concepción Department, Argentina

The department Concepción is located in the center of the province of Corrientes in the north- eastern Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province. By 1870, it was named after the name of his capital in Guaraní Yaguarete Corá what is common in the vernacular today.

To the north it borders the departments saladas, Mburucuyá and General Paz, on the east by the departments of San Miguel and Ituzaingó, to the south by the Departamento Mercedes and to the west by the department of San Roque.

The capital of the department of Concepción is the same Concepción.

Geography

The department is flat and evenly moist, even outside the vast swamp lowlands of the river estuary. The density of the vegetation impedes access to certain areas of the department.

Population

The colonization of the department focuses on the north-western part of the territory. The remaining area belongs mostly to the nature reserve Esteros del Ibera.
