Coroico Municipality

The municipality of Coroico is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality of Coroico is one of two Municipalities of the Province Nor Yungas and located in the western part of the province. It is bordered to the northwest and west by the province of Murillo, on the south by the province of Sud Yungas, to the east by the municipality of Coripata, and in the north- east by the province Caranavi.

The municipality has 115 localities ( Localidades ). The central location of the municipality is Coroico with 2,197 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) in the eastern part of the county.

Geography

The municipality of Coroico lies at an average altitude of 2000 m 90 km east of Lake Titicaca in the region of the Yungas between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Real and the foothills of the Amazon lowlands. The annual precipitation here in the subtropical Yungas is 1100 mm (see climate chart ) and has a distinct dry season from May to August and a rainy season from December to February. The monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 20 ° C and 25 ° C.

The municipality had at the last census of 2001, a population density of 13.0 inhabitants / km ², the life expectancy of newborns was 62.0 years, the infant mortality rate was 6.1% (1992 ) to 6.4 % in 2001, slightly increased.

93.2 percent of the population speak Spanish, 62.1 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 3.5 percent. (2001)

78.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 54.6 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).
