Nor Yungas Province

Nor Yungas is one of twenty provinces of the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia and is located in the central part of the department.

Location

The province is located on the eastern slopes of the Bolivian Cordillera Real and bordered to the northwest and west by the province of Murillo, in the south and east by the province of Sud Yungas, and to the north by the province Caranavi.

The province extends from about 15 ° 58 'and 16 ° 24' south latitude and 67 ° 22 ' and 68 ° 00'W, it measures 45 km from north to south, from east to west and 65 kilometers.

The population of the Province Nor Yungas has risen in the past two decades to nearly double:

The literacy rate in the province is 88.1 percent, and 92.8 percent, although in men and 82.7 percent for women.

The infant mortality rate has declined from 7.2 percent (1992 ) to 6.8 percent ( 2001).

89.9 percent of the population speak Spanish, 67.1 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 2.6 percent. (2001)

41.0 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 84.6 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

81.7 percent of households have a radio, 32.9 percent have a television, 13.0 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 7.6 percent, 4.6 percent, a car, a refrigerator 11.8 percent, 3.4 percent phone. (2001)

84.6 percent of the population are Catholics, 10.1 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Nor Yungas Province is divided into the following two counties ( bolivian: municipios ):

  • Municipio Coripata - 12,428 inhabitants (Update 2010)
  • Municipality of Coroico - 14,329 inhabitants
