Corpataux-Magnedens

Magnedens is a municipality in the District de la Sarine ( German: Sarine district) of the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The double was commune on 1 January 1999 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Corpataux ( Freiburg Patois Korpathà? / I) and Magnedens ( Freiburg Patois Manyedin? / I ) is formed.

Geography

Magnedens is located on 687 m above sea level. M., 8 km south-southwest of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The village is located on the plateau west of the Sarine river trench, in Molassehügelland of Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​4.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating Molasseplateaus between the valleys of Glane in the west and Sarine in the east. The eastern border is the river here strongly meandering along the Sarine, deeply cut into the molasse. The approximately 200 to 500 m wide, flat valley floor is mostly forested. Adjoining a long stretches of sandstone cliffs, criss-crossed, up to 100 m high escarpment on which in the West continues in an undulating plateau. To the south, the area extends into the forest of Le Chaney (722 m above sea level. M. ). To the west is the community floor extends into the formerly marshy plain Les Dailles, at the height of Le Rodzin, on 723 m above sea level. Magnedens consists of two villages:

  • Corpataux, 687 m above sea level. M., on the plateau west of the Sarine, east of the A12 motorway; former rural community area of ​​approximately 3.1 square kilometers.

Population

With 1237 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Magnedens one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 92.0% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 5.6 % and 0.9 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Magnedens amounted in 1900 to 437 inhabitants. After peaking in 1940 with 513 inhabitants, the population increased to 1970 by 15% to 437 persons. Since then, rapid population growth was again associated with a doubling of the population recorded in 30 years. The population increase is concentrated almost exclusively on Corpataux while Magnedens ( about 150 inhabitants) remained a farming community.

Economy

Magnedens was until the second half of the 20th century, a predominantly shaped by the agriculture community. Even today, the farming, fruit growing, dairy farming and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operating wood processing and in a cement plant. In the vicinity of Corpataux there are several gravel pits. By 1950, a tuff quarry was exploited at La Tuffière. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region of Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It is only a little beside the old main road from Fribourg to Bulle. The nearest links to the motorway A12 ( Bern- Vevey), which crosses the municipality, is located about four kilometers from the town center. History

The territory of Magnedens was settled very early. For example, a grave from the La Tène period and the remains were found a Roman villa from the 1st century AD.

The first mention of Corpataux was in 1142 under the name Corpastur. Later, the spellings Corpastor ( 1163 ), Corpatour ( 1380 ) and Corpastour appeared in the 14th century. The place name is derived from the Latin words curtis pastoris ( courtyard of the shepherd / pastor ).

Magnedens, its former German name Magne thing is, is first documented in 1162 as Manoldens. For later times the names Manni Dens (13th century), Magnoudeins, Manudens ( 1229 ), Magnuidens ( 1263 ), Magnudens ( 1281 ), Manudins ( 1567) and Magniendens (1645 ) have survived. This place name is derived from personal names or Manold Maginold and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Manold / Maginold.

Since the Middle Ages Corpataux and Magnedens belonged to the dominion Arconciel - Illens and shared their fate. After the Berne and Fribourg who in 1475 conquered this rule, had been dissolved in 1484, and both villages the Bailiwick Illens were allocated. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) were among Corpataux and Magnedens during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Farvagny before they were incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the Sarine district.

After 1998, the residents of Corpataux and Magnedens had opted for a merger of their communities, was created with effect from 1 January 1999, the new church Magnedens.
