Counties of Denmark

The office was from 1662 to the administrative reform in Denmark in 2007, the highest level of administrative divisions of Denmark. The division into office in 1793 and 1970 fundamentally reformed and in each case reduced the number of offices.

Absolutism

Upon introduction of the offices under Frederik III. the country was divided into 44 departments:

Tryggevælde Office and Vordingborg Office 1750 were merged to form Præstø Office, the 1803 nor the Møn office was slammed.

Danish general government

After formation of the Danish state the magisterial districts in 1793 enlarged and cropped. They have been retained in the kingdom until 1970 substantially. The duchy of Schleswig was conquered in 1864 by Prussia and later annexed. After the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles, a referendum was held in 1920 in Schleswig, according to which North Schleswig came with his former offices Haderslev Office, Nordborg Office, Office Tønder, Sønderborg and Aabenraa Office Office to Denmark. Offices (1970-2006)

On April 1, 1970, the number of ministries was reduced by an administrative reform from 23 to 14. The municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg district office remained free under certain specific conditions ( large urban metropolitan area), the relevant competencies exercised so yourself.

At the same time, the number of municipalities was reduced with this reform. The municipalities were established in 1841, then 1021. Added to the cities came with Market Law (Danish Købstad ). The number of municipalities and købstæder had reached its peak with a total of 1345 (1257 municipalities and 88 købstæder ) in 1965. With the municipal reform 1970, the title disappeared Købstad from the official vocabulary, Harden (Danish Odsherred ) were also abolished and after some voluntary mergers reduced the number of municipalities in the late 1960s by even 1098 to 277. In 1974, the municipalities Sengeløse and Hoje Taastrup Taastrup municipality and to Hoje Store Magleby and Dragør were merged to Dragør municipality. The number of communities was thus 275

Note: Ringkjøbing office was officially spelled differently than his administrative headquarters Ringkøbing.

With the municipal reform of January 1, 2007, the offices were abolished and replaced by five regions.
