Crémines

Crémines is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Bernese Jura in Switzerland.

Geography

Crémines is located on 616 m above sea level. M., 5 km east of the town Moutier (air line). The village extends along the creek La Out the Jura Mountains, in the Cornet, the eastern part of the Jura latitudinal Moutier, which also bears the name of Grand Val.

The area of ​​9.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Grand Val, bounded on the north by the Jura chain of Mont Raimeux. Population

With 531 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Crémines belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Bernese Jura. Of the 80.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 14.0 % and 1.7 % in German and Spanish speaking (as of 2000). The population of Crémines amounted in 1850 to 297 residents in 1900 to 383 inhabitants. Later she commuted always between 490-580 people.

Economy

The population of Crémines lived until 1900 on agriculture, others were given watchmaking and pottery, mainly in homework. With the rise of the machine tool industry in the valley of Moutier also some companies settled in Crémines. In the course of the 20th century a cardboard factory and the printing industry were added. In recent decades, Crémines has gradually developed into the residential community.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Moutier to Balsthal. On August 1, 1908, the railway line in the Solothurn -Münster -Bahn from Moutier was opened by the white stone tunnel to Solothurn with a railway station in Crémines.

History

The first written mention of Crémines took place in 1461 under the name Crimene, later the name Cremin appeared. However, the discovery of graves from the early Middle Ages refers to a much earlier settlement of the area. Crémines depended until the end of the 18th century, the provost Moutier- Grandval. From 1797 to 1815 Crémines belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, which was connected to the 1800 Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier. Since 1967 there is a municipal cooperation of the municipalities of the Cornet regarding water supply, wastewater treatment and primary school.

Attractions

In the center several typical farmhouses have survived from the 18th century. Also worth seeing are the characteristic wooden storage that emerged in the period from the early 17th to the late 18th century. The Restaurant de la Croix Blanche is located in a building that was created in 1810. From 1868 comes the village school house, built in the style of late classicism. Crémines belongs to the parish Grandval. The Catholic chapel was built in 1935.
