Cruz Alta Department

The Department of Cruz Alta is located in the eastern province of Tucumán in northwestern Argentina, and is one of 17 administrative units in the province. It is bordered to the north by the Departamento Burruyacú, on the east by the province of Santiago del Estero, on the south by the Departamento Leales and to the west by the departments Lules, Capital and Tafi Viejo. According to the Department of Capital (Tucumán ) Cruz Alta is the most populous department with 162,240 inhabitants. The two main communities are the Banda del Rio Sali Departamentshauptstadt and Alderetes.

Economy

To the west of the department of Cruz Alta, a number of major industries have settled. The most important are the largest sugar refinery in the province, the Ingenio Concepcion, and the establishment of the Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. Also of importance is the Aceitera General Deheza are ( AGD ) and Refinor ( Refinerías del Norte). Near Lastenia the Zona Franca de Tucumán is. The East of the department is mainly agricultural, with the cultivation of sugar cane domininiert.

Transport links

The Ruta Nacional 9 crosses the department and forms the most important link between the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán and the province of Santiago del Estero. In the community Cevil Pozo is the international Teniente Benjamín Matienzo Airport, the only airport in the province of Tucumán.
