Damprichard

Damprichard is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Damprichard is located on 822 m, 6 km east of Maîche and about 31 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, at the edge of the vast plateau of Maîche, at the western foot of the forest heights of Le Bois de Cotard and Roichenoz north of the deep valley of the Doubs, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​21.90 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the weakly in relief plateau Maîche, which is on average 800 m. It is mainly consisted of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some larger forest areas. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The plateau is limited (990 m), the Bois de Roichenoz extends on its southeast side by a ridge extending from the Peu de Grueresse northeast across the Cotard ( 993 m) to the Pré Maillot, at the rate of 1023 m, the highest elevation of Damprichard is achieved. History

The place name derives from the Latin word Dominus Ricardus ( Mr. Richard ) from where it is not clear whether this is a saint or a local ruler. The p in Damprichard was added until the 19th century. Since the 16th century belonged to the county Damprichard de la Roche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1703 it came to the territory of the Counts of Montjoie, where it remained until the French Revolution. In the 19th century, the watch industry was introduced in Damprichard which characterized the economic life in the village for a long time. A better transport links was the village in 1905 with the opening of the narrow gauge railway (Le Tacot ), the wrong Morteau via Maîche until after Trévillers. The operation of this railway line, however, was set in 1952.

Attractions

The present building of the church of Sainte -Madeleine was begun in 1743. 1862 enlargement and 1960 a comprehensive restoration was undertaken. The church has a rich interior, including altars, a pulpit and wall paintings from the 18th century. Some farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries in traditional Franche-Comté style have been preserved. The Maison Farque (18th century) was the Count of Montjoie as a hunting lodge. At the hamlet of Le Prélot is the country chapel of Saint -Roch.

Population

With 1789 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Damprichard one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. In the first half of the 20th century, the population moved always in the range 1200-1350 persons. From 1950 to the mid 1970s, a continuous population growth was recorded. With more than 2000 inhabitants, the previous high was reached in 1975.
